free canva fonts for your specific brand personality

I have to be honest with you… this week there was no alone time under the oak tree at the horse farm. I wrote this like a normal little muggle on a laptop while my kids watched Hocus Pocus 2 after dinner.

We're out of town this week seeing family in North Carolina - but I wasn't going to miss our friday coffee date here… afterall, we have a solid routine together at this point!

As I was creating the graphics below (spoiler: they're going to help you with your brand fonts!) I was trying to figure out a good way to explain the difference in good, solid branding that sells for you and bad, confusing branding that is just copying a design trend.

That's when Hocus Pocus 2 inspired me.

Just a reminder about the plot… the spell that brought back the sisters only works on Halloween and unless they can suck the life out of at least one child, they will turn to dust when the sun rises.

Just like the sisters on Halloween, design trends are hard to walk away from and are resurrected over and over again (also like the return of all those sweet outfits we used to shop for in Delia's catalog).

They're fun for a short time, but using trends you see in templates and “short life design” will only lead to brand envy when the next trend rolls around. Not only is it really bad for brand recognition to change over and over, but it's such a waste of money-making time!

Avoid turning to dust.

Using design trends in your branding will only last for Halloween night. But designing to your unique brand personality could last a decade*.

SO, IS YOUR BRAND A HOLIDAY OR A DECADE?

It takes a long time to create a brand you love - trust me - I hear from clients daily about their frustrations with color palettes and graphics and fonts they spent good money on that won't even import into canva #theworst.

So today, we're just taking it one baby step at a time… one that you've probably agonized over while scrolling creative market and instagram and canva and still have no idea if you're making the right choice…

FONTS FONTS FONTS!

And to sweeten the deal, these fonts are all found in Canva!

Choosing your main brand font WELL, one that is uniquely YOU, can communicate EXACTLY who you are in seconds*.

PRO TIPS

If you're unsure what your brand personality is:

  • Write down the feelings you want your clients to have when they work with you.

  • Think about your communication tone and style

  • Your brand promises

  • Your offerings and mission as a business

At the bottom of each brand personality graphic below, you'll see words that you may relate to as a brand… try them on and see how they fit, and pick your winner!

Again, all of these fonts are found in Canva and are designer approved!

My final piece of advice – is consistency – you don’t need to go overboard with fonts, choose one and stick with it as your main header.

And if you have questions - just ask!
