Recently my family and I decided to take a month-long cross-country road trip… with two small girls…in a Prius. Not glamorous, but really freaking adventurous.
You know how physically giddy you feel when taking off on a new adventure? So optimistic. Willing to try anything. That’s how we all felt leaving Seattle for Portland on day one of our journey. Travel conditions? Flawless. First stop? Voodoo Donuts!
We could hardly believe how perfectly it was all falling into place. The pre-planned donut wishlist in hand, the perfect parking spot, the magical realization that there was no line to get in, even though this place is KNOWN for its lines out the door. We felt unstoppable.
You know what comes next…Yep, the puke. All the puke. Before we could even order, Hazel pukes all over the baby carrier - making a disgusting soup-sandwich of puke, Hazel, and John. As they exit to clean up, I turn to the cashier and order our three donuts to go.
Instead, bless her, the lady hands me a gigantic pink box with one of every donut they had in stock. Like two-dozen damn donuts. Man, was I so proud to greet John (in all his pukey glory) with more donuts than we could ever eat!
